Borderlands 3 Vs. Destiny 2

If you like playing looter shooters, you’ve probably heard of both Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2 by now. They’re the most popular games in this genre at the moment, and there are many reasons behind this fact.

However, as similar as they are, they’re far from being the same game. Both games have their own unique systems and gameplays, all of which we’ll analyze in this short comparison guide.

So, without any further ado, let’s get right to the bottom of it!

Destiny 2 is a bit more challenging

Now, we’re not saying that you don’t have to be skilled to be a good Borderlands 3 player, but Destiny 2 takes it to a whole other level. The game is infamous for its grinding system that rewards consistency and constant improvement after every match you’ve played.

Borderlands 3 is more suitable for casual players who’re simply looking to have some fun with their friends. It’s still quite challenging, especially if you’re not familiar with FPS games at all, but it’s far from being as difficult as Destiny 2.

Your choice depends solely on your playstyle. If you enjoy grinding from season to season, D2 is for you. Otherwise, Borderlands might be the better option.

Either way, we advise you to simply try them both out. It’s the best way to see which one of them fits your gaming needs the most!

The Loot System

There are no looter shooters without the loot, right?

Both Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2 have extensive loot systems that make them exciting to play. In both, you have a random roll system and different “power levels” of every drop get, which makes the gameplay engaging and interesting even after you’ve been playing for a while.

However, Borderlands does have a more complex loot system. You’ll have billions of options to choose from, so it certainly provides more variety than Destiny 2 in this regard. Again, we’re not saying there’s something wrong with Destiny’s loot, it’s just that Borderlands does it better.

Another difference between these two games is in the frequency of loot drops in all their competitive modes. Borderlands is far more generous with its loot, which makes it much more fun to play for those gamers who enjoy experimenting with gear.

Lastly, both games have fun designs when it comes to weaponry and armor, so you’ll certainly enjoy collecting them all!

When it comes to the gameplay itself, both games have their own pros and cons. It all boils down to your preferences and playstyle.

To be fair, as similar as they are, these games are completely different when it comes to their core mechanics. If you enjoy beautiful graphics, a variety of different game modes, and a challenging grind, Destiny 2 is the game for you. Don’t believe us? Just ask the pros at www.destiny2-sherpa.com!

If you’d like to have some casual fun, all while enjoying colorful graphics and wacky characters, Borderlands 3 might be your new favorite FPS.

Again, the best way to check which one is “right” for you is to play them both. Else, try watching some gameplay videos on YouTube to see what looks more fun to you.

One thing that makes us root for Destiny a bit more is the fact it has raids, which are incredibly fun to play. It’s the first thing you should check out once you download the game (besides its story mode).

The visuals

No matter how much we love Borderlands 3, it simply doesn’t have the visual appeal of Destiny 2. It remains one of the most beautiful looter shooter games currently available.

Therefore, if you’re someone who likes stunning visuals and beautifully designed characters and maps, we can’t recommend D2 enough. It also lets you customize your character to no end, which is something that B3 lacks completely.

Now, we’re not saying B3 is all bad when it comes to graphics. In fact, some people would rather take its unique, wacky style over D2’s polished graphics any day.

Either way, fun is guaranteed with both of these games! Don’t hesitate to try them out when you have some free time on your hands.

The community

B3 and D2 have some issues with their communities, as all competitive games of this genre do. No matter which one you decide to play, you’re likely to encounter a couple of toxic players. It’s not as bad as with certain MOBAS (if you’ve ever played one, you know exactly what we’re talking about), but it can still be discouraging at times.

We recommend playing with your friends if they’re willing to join you on your grinding journey, as it’s the most fun way to experience both of these games by far.

The story

Now, you can’t expect a storytelling masterpiece from a looter shooter game – it’s simply not what they’re all about. Story missions are secondary in both of these games, so they’re not as great as you’d want them to be. They are, however, perfectly enjoyable in their own unique ways.

We must say, though, that we prefer B3’s story a bit more, as it makes you connect with the characters much more easily. Still, it all depends on your own preferences and needs, so don’t take our word for it!

You can check the story missions before you start playing the games themselves by watching a couple of YouTube videos to get a better picture of the storylines yourself.

The bottom line

Overall, while Borderlands 3 and Destiny 2 have a lot in common, they’re fundamentally two completely different games. We can’t say one’s better than the other, as it all depends on your specific needs and preferences as a gamer.

Whatever you decide to play next, make sure to check out as many guides and tutorials as beforehand. It’s the best way to enhance your in-game experience! Additionally, don’t listen to what other people say about the games – try them out for yourself to see which one fits your gaming style the best!
